UTICA — A funeral service for Grathel Parks, 97, of Utica, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, 15271 Vance Road, Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica.
Grathel went to be with Jesus on Jan. 17, 2014, at Flint Ridge Nursing Home, Newark, and the angels are rejoicing in heaven. She was born Dec. 21, 1916, in Louisa, Ky., to the late Dillon and Fanny (Thompson) Moore.
She was a member of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, where she played the piano for many years. She was a loving mother and gifted musician.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, John William Moore of Canal Winchester, and Rick and Mary Jo Moore of Nashport; daughters and son-in-law, Rose Ernest of Mount Vernon, and Peggy and Bill Latham Liggett of Utica; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Judy Moore of Louisa, Ky.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, William T. Moore who passed away in 1978 and John Parks who passed away in 2000; brothers, Cliff, Eugene, Donald and Robert Moore; and sisters, Opal Dague, Walda Short and Fern Heck.
