MOUNT VERNON — Jeanette Arlene Spellman, 89, of Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus. She was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Mount Vernon, to the late Forrest and Ellen (Yoakam) Bockoven. Arlene retired in 1985 after 30 plus years as a registered nurse for Peoples Hospital in Mansfield. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.

Arlene served as a volunteer for over 25 years with Hospice of Knox County. She was an avid golfer, and always enjoyed a good game of cards or a relaxing afternoon with a good book or any kind of puzzle. Arlene was a big supporter and fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

She is survived by a son, David (Pam) Spellman of Mount Gilead; three daughters, Linda (Alfred) Oakes of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Connie (Robert) Brandt of Mansfield and Kay (Dan) Zgela of Lucas; six granddaughters; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Spellman and a sister, Marie Farley.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Pastor Mark Wildermuth will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Arlene’s name may be made to Hospice of Knox County.
