CENTERBURG — Robert H. “Bob” Pruitt, 79, of Centerburg, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 30, 2013, at St. Ann’s Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Centerburg, to the late Rush and Edra (McCraw) Pruitt. He had worked as a self-employed carpenter and most recently as a tank truck driver for Union 76.
He was a member of the Centerburg United Methodist Church, Centerburg Conservation Club and was a former member of the Centerburg Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He was a jack of all trades and a master of all.
Bob enjoyed woodworking and woodcarving, traveling in his motor home over the past 17 years spending winters in Texas with his extended winter family, and was looked upon by many as a father figure. Bob never met a stranger, and could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and end that as a friend.
He is survived by his bride of 60 years, Mabel (Huffman) Pruitt and they were married Sept. 20, 1953, in Centerburg; children, Cheryl (Don) Rine of Mount Vernon, Mike (Chris) Pruitt of Centerburg, and Cathy (Steve) Clutter of Westerville; grandchildren, James (Wendy), Ben (Kim Swihart) and Bethany (Derek Scott) Rine, Sabrina (David) Klinedinst, Brandy Pruitt, and Paige and Kendall Clutter; great-grandchildren, Macie, Megan and Jackson Rine, Liliana and Lincoln Scott, Callyn Reed, and Kinley Klinedinst; and a sister, Sue (Keith) Colopy of Centerburg.
Preceded in death by great-grandchild, Sebastion Scott; brother, Elmer Pruitt; and sister, Mary Satterfield.
Friends may call at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, on Saturday, from 3 to 5 p.m., with the Celebration of Life service to follow at 5 p.m., with Pastor Vicky Kelley officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Ohio Joint Fire District in Centerburg.
