MOUNT VERNON — Lloyd J. Coffing, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away Jan. 5, 2014, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home surrounded by his family.

He was born Feb. 27, 1925, in Knox County, to the late Justus and Luella (Pearl) Coffing.

Lloyd was a longtime member of Grove Church of Christ. He was a 1944 graduate of Fredericktown High School, a World War II 84th Infantry Army Veteran and an avid OSU football fan.

During his lifetime, he was employed at Walker Lumber Company; Green Valley Meat Processing; and Dee Jay’s Meat Processing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marie (Beckley) Coffing; his four children, Lou Ann Coffing of Worthington, Connie (Bill) McMurtry of Mount Vernon, Gary (Nancy) Coffing of Wooster and Randy (Bonnie) Coffing of Fredericktown; his five grandchildren, Jason (Tracey) Whaley, Jeremy (Christina) Coffing, Melissa (James) Mathews, Daisy Coffing and Rose (Kurt) Mills; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by a grandson, Will “Jamie” Whaley; along with seven brothers; and a sister.

Friends may call Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main Street, Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., at Grove Church of Christ in Gambier, with Pastor Victor Slutz officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lloyd’s memory to Grove Church of Christ, 7740 Grove Church Road, Gambier, OH 43022; or the Ohio Eastern Star Home, 1451 Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
