MARTINSBURG — Raymond F. Shoemaker, 91, of Martinsburg, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 17, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Homer, to the late Fred and Naomi (Snyder) Shoemaker. Raymond was a World War II Army veteran who received the Purple Heart. He was also a former founder and volunteer firefighter with the Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department and a former member with Three C’s (Civil Conservation Service).

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley (Frost) Shoemaker; three daughters, Sharon White of Newark, Deborah (Michael) Cooper of Logan and Brenda (Harold) Cameron of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Donald (Sheila) Ramsey of Indiana; four grandchildren, Brian (Kimberly) Simmons, Douglas (Trisha) Simmons, Christel Rolston and Derrick (Tiffany) Cooper; along with four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Raymond was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Stanley Shoemaker.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bladensburg Church of Christ, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be in Bladensburg Cemetery.

The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Bladensburg is handling the funeral services for the Shoemaker family.
