BASTROP, Texas — Melvin Michael Rooch of Bastrop, Texas, died Dec. 16, 2013. Mel was born July 26, 1915, in Union, N.J., to George Rooch and Anna Arnold Rooch.
Mel was predeceased by his wives, Lyddy Victoria Bloomquist, who died in 1995, and Marion Rose Naff, who died in 2003; his daughter, Bettyanne Rooch; and son, Melvin Rooch. He is survived by his five grandchildren, Deborah Cochran, Melvin Robert Rooch II, Michael Rooch, Jack Jr. and Charles Sprinkle; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
For over 43 years, Mel applied his expertise to the laminated paper and film industry, in both manufacturing and sales. He was employed by several major companies including Shellmar, Continental Can, Kaiser Aluminum and Mosinee Paper Co. He was a craftsman and proud of the fact that he had lived in and renovated 22 homes. He was a member of the Elks Club, and until his move to Bastrop an active member of Kingsland Community Church Choir. Heaven will welcome his rich baritone.
