UTICA — Frederick “Fred” L. Laymon, 71, of Utica, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 23, 1941, in Mount Vernon, to the late Owen and Mary (Tharp) Laymon. Fred was a 1959 graduate of Utica High School, and worked 14 years with Ohio Power before owning and operating Laymon Drilling. He retired as an independent truck driver and owner for Truck One in Newark.
Fred was a member of the Owl Creek Baptist Church and the Ohio National Guard. He resided most of his life in the Utica area, and since retirement his favorite past time was gardening and restoring his motorcycle and tractors. He will be sadly missed by many.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shirley A. (Flack) Laymon; a daughter, Sheryl L. Brady of Dublin; sons, Donald L. Laymon of Columbus and Randal L. (Michelle) Laymon of Bellville; five grandchildren, Kristin Laymon, Megan Bledsoe, Nicholas Brady, Nathan Laymon and Parker Laymon; great-grandson, Brody Bledsoe; sisters, Nancy (Ken) Speer of Slippery Rock, Pa., and Diana (Darwin) Woods of Mount Vernon; and sister-in-law, Sheila Laymon of Mount Vernon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Keith L. Laymon.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. Sharon Van Winkle will be officiating. Burial will follow in Owl Creek Cemetery.
