MOUNT VERNON — Cathy Lynn Boutin, 61, of East Gambier Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family after her courageous yearlong battle with cancer.

She was born on July 7, 1952, in Seattle, Wash., to Vincent and Shirley (Vig) Cornell. Cathy was a 1970 graduate of Stadium High School in Tacoma, Wash., and served as the general manager of Kmart for 25 years. She also worked in the cash office at Walmart for several years.

Upon moving to Mount Vernon in 1992, Cathy worked in the Kenyon College admissions office for over 10 years, where she cherished interacting and helping prospective students. She enjoyed attending her children’s soccer and rugby games, and loved always having treats for the dogs who visited her office at Kenyon.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Cornell; her husband of 24 years, Peter Boutin; a son, Brian Boutin of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Chelsea Boutin of Mount Vernon; a sister, Cheryl Loete of Tacoma, Wash.; and close relatives, Kasey Lynn Loete, Laurie Ann Loete, Brayden Katzer, Keaton Katzer, Thomas M. Boutin, Theresa Boutin, Tom Boutin Jr., Matthew Boutin, Margaux Boutin, Kaye Cobb, Scott Boutin, Anne Boutin McGuire, Edward McGuire, Lindsey McGuire, Lauren McGuire, Christopher McGuire, Maurice Boutin and Claire Boutin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vincent Cornell.

A special thank you to Kenyon College, Hospice of Knox County and all of her dear friends who gave her wonderful care and support.

Friends may visit Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the family home, 400 E. Gambier St., Mount Vernon. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Cathy Lynn Boutin.

Memorial contributions in Cathy’s name may be made to the Knox County Animal Shelter.
