MOUNT VERNON — Donna Jean (Wharton) Linkous, 81, of Brown Street, Mount Vernon, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born March 14, 1932, in Danville, Ohio, to the late Lemard and Mary (Thomas) Wharton. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry (Kim Ransom) Linkous of Lexington, Ohio, and Jim (Mary) Linkous of Mount Vernon; grandsons, Chad (Sunshine) Linkous of St. Roberts, Mo., and Joe (Lindsey Ray) Linkous of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Elissa, Anita and Joseph Linkous of St. Roberts, Mo.; and her beloved canine companion, Raven.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Clarence Linkous; a son, Gary Ray Linkous; two brothers, Dwight Wharton and Red Wharton; two sisters, Leedra Conner and Leona Conner; and constant canine companion, Holly.
We will not only miss Donna’s strength, courage and values, but also her sense of humor, and love of dogs and other animals. Donna was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns.
Per her request, there will be no calling hours and a memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Donna Jean (Wharton) Linkous.
Memorial contributions in Donna’s name may be made to the Knox County Animal Shelter or the Knox County Humane Society.
