DALTON, Ga. — Carol Joan Paulson, 74, of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.
She was born to the late Alva and Lillian Phillips, Aug. 30, 1939, in Columbus. She graduated from the Mount Vernon Nazarene University and received her B.A. in education. She married Bill Paulson in 1956. In 1970, they moved to Mount Vernon, where they raised their three children.
Carol was an elementary school teacher and principal at Mount Vernon SDA elementary school until her retirement in 1999. Carol loved teaching and was passionate about Christian education. It was her desire to make a difference in the lives of her students.
She served as president of Compassionate Friends for the Mount Vernon chapter and was honored with the Jefferson award for her work with bereaved parents. She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and served the Lord faithfully.
She is survived by her husband, H. William Paulson of Asheville, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Andy Kerr of Asheville, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Debbie Paulson of Dalton, Ga.; five grandchildren, Evan and Andrea Paulson, Will, Elle and Cally Kerr; sister, Marilyn Yeager; and brother, Bill Phillips.
She is preceded in death by one son, David William Paulson.
Friends may call Saturday, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be Sunday, at 1 p.m., at the Mount Vernon Seventh-Day Adventist Hill Church. Private burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
