AMITY — James G. Fowler Jr., 90, of Amity, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.
He was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Amity, to the late James and Lula Pearl (Rodehaver) Fowler. James was a lifelong farmer. He was a Pike Township Trustee for numerous years and was also a member of the Amity United Methodist Church. James was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Charlotte (Yaeger) Fowler; three daughters, Debra Fowler of Mount Vernon, Jodi Wright of Chicago, Ill., and Leah (Rob) Clendening of Mount Vernon; three sons, Jeff (Bethanne) Fowler of Amity, Jim Fowler of Amity and Chris (Wendi) Fowler of Amity; 13 grandchildren, Jeremiah Fowler, Erin Burger, Dustin Wright, Alison Wright, Adam Wright, Janelle McGregor, Mary Ann Fowler, Lisa Fowler, Jack Fowler, Emma Fowler, Reese Clendening, Drew Clendening and Mitch Clendening; 12 great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Char Fowler of Amity; and a significant member of the family, Jean-Pierre Villemalard of Paris, France.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Holly Fowler; and three sisters, Ila Ransom, Martha Yoakam and Gerry Drake.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held Thursday at the Amity United Methodist Church beginning at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mike Stine officiating. Burial will follow in Amity Cemetery.
