MOUNT VERNON — Howard V. Pipes, 70, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Mount Vernon, to the late Howard and Catherine (Bostwick) Pipes. Howard worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass and retired from Gerstenslager in Wooster. He was a member of AMVETS Post 95; and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting and spending time with his many friends and canine companion, Snoopy.

He is survived by his special friend, Crystal (Black) Pipes; a son, Mike (Kim) Stevens of Washington Court House; two daughters, Monica Hite of Mount Vernon, Marcia (Doug) Rine of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Brian (Kellie) Hite, Alisha Hite, Stephanie Rine, Rebecca Stevens and Phillip Stevens; and a brother, Robert (Carol) Dial of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, who raised him and he knew as his father, Robert D. Dial; a brother, Ronald Dial; and his son-in-law, Alan Hite.

Friends may call Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Pastor Tom Duncan will be officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Gambier, Ohio.

Memorial contributions in Howard’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the animal shelter of your choice.
