MOUNT VERNON — Freda L. Smith, 93, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at the Emeritus at HillenVale in Mount Vernon. Freda was born March 3, 1920, in Wheeling, W.Va., to Rolly and Freda (Smith) Summers and had been a resident of Knox County for 75 years.

Freda was a former employee of the State of Ohio Children’s Home.

Freda loved to decorate bird houses.

She was a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church, Pythian Sisters and the Fredericktown Saddle Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Charles) Millheim of North Olmstead; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Smith of Fredericktown; grandchildren, Mike (Lisa) Smith, Mindy Smith, Mark (Courtney) Smith, Michelle (Barry Flutty) Smith, Joel (Susan) Smith, Melissa (Kim Hathaway) Smith, Sandy (Howard Drake) Millheim, Cindy Smith, Sonya (Steve Lybarger) Smith and Steve Stinnmetz; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Bob Summers of Tennessee; and sisters, Peg Kirk and Dot (John) Davis all of Englewood, Fla., Naomi (Russ) Miller of Fredericktown and Nellie Ferenbaugh of Danville. Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Smith; sons, Larry Smith and Dwight Smith; six brothers and two sisters

There will be no calling hours. Private graveside funeral services will be held at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
