NEWARK — A funeral service for Earl Eugene “Gene” Kidd, 81, of Newark, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery.
Gene passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Heath Nursing Care Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Frazeysburg, Ohio, to the late Carey and Edith Pearl (Sholts) Kidd. Gene was a longtime State Highway Inspector for the State of Ohio. He was an avid horseshoe player and loved to watch the Ohio State Buckeyes play each Saturday.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Shirley Lee (Travis) Kidd; two sons, Douglas Eugene Kidd of Newark and Randall Scott Kidd of Miamisburg; two daughters, Cindi K. (Kevin) Rine of Miamisburg and Diana L. (David) Stickle of Newark; stepsons, Jerry Alan Crooks of Woodsfield, Ronnie Dale Crooks of Clarington, Michael Dean Crooks of Beallsville and George Bruce Crooks of Westerville; stepdaughter, Dixie Lee Lucas of Beallsville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Caroline Kidd; a brother, Bill Kidd; grandson, Stephen Kidd; and granddaughter, Brandy Grigsby.
Friends may call an hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, 59 N. Fifth St., Newark.
