GAMBIER — John M. “Big John” Roberts, 53, of Martinsburg Road, Gambier, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, Oct. 14, 2013.
He was born Feb. 17, 1960, in Santa Monica, Calif., to the late Jack and Meredith Roberts. Big John built racing heads in the Pro Stock Class for Larry Morgan Racing. He was a member of the N.H.R.A and loved drag racing. He enjoyed fishing and was very proud that he recently lost over 200 pounds. But most of all, Big John enjoyed traveling and shopping with his late wife, RoxAnne.
He is survived by his son, Edward Roberts of Gambier; his niece, Nicole (Jason) Gardiner of Grand Isle, Vt.; four grandchildren, Kaylyn, Nate, Rayce and Reign; and his best friend, George Friis of Gambier.
Besides his parents, Big John was preceded in death by his wife, RoxAnne Roberts; a brother and a sister.
There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
