MOUNT VERNON — Rita Ann Rodgers, 66, passed away Oct. 12, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones.
Rita was born Feb. 2, 1947, in Olive Hill, Ky., to Cledith Stevens and Beulah (Barker) Stevens.
Rita is survived by her husband, Ted Rodgers of Orient, Ohio; mother, Beulah Binion of Olive Hill, Ky.; daughters, Lisa (John) Walchle and Lori Montgomery, both of Mount Vernon; sister, Wilmeda Rodgers of Olive Hill, Ky.; sister, Phyllus Downey of Columbus; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by father, Cledith Stevens; and her daughter, Belinda Sue Rodgers.
Rita had many jobs throughout her life, but her favorite was working with the kids on her bus as an aide with the Southwestern City School District. She was always doing something for someone else and looking for ways to help people. She headed numerous fundraisers to benefit the needy. She loved family, including her grandchildren, her parrots and fishing. In August 2001, she suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm that led to a stroke. After the doctors gave her nearly zero percent chance of living, she came to live in Mount Vernon, where the whole family took care of her.
Family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, Mount Sterling. Her final resting place will be in the Memorial Gardens of Olive Hill, Ky., handled by Globe Funeral Home. Online condolences to www.tiddfuneralservice.com.Copyright The Associated Press.
