MOUNT VERNON — Richard C. Walpole, 74, of Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 1, 2013, at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Granville, to the late Austin and Dorothy (Brown) Walpole. Richard had worked for many years as a foreman for Kelsey-Hayes and recently for American Showa.
He is survived by his four children, Crystal (Alfred) Cleveland of Marengo, Don (Becky) Walpole of Centerburg, Dave (Lauri) Walpole of Reynoldsburg and Josh Walpole of St. Louis; a brother Phil (Carol) Walpole of Granville; a sister, Joyce Pierce of Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Rod Shaw of Mount Vernon, and Chris (Kelly) Shaw of Big Prairie; and his constant canine companion; Joha.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Walpole, in 2010.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Knox County Humane Society.
