MOUNT VERNON — Phyllis J. Smith, 63, of Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 15, 1950, in Galion, daughter of Creta (Trowbridge) Berger and the late Harold Dial.
Phyllis was a cook for the Apple Valley Golf Course for over 28 years. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge in Mount Vernon. Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, golfing and bowling. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and shopping on Tuesdays. Phyllis could always make you laugh when you were having a bad day. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bart Smith whom she married Oct. 6, 1973; sons, Anthony E. Thomas of Mount Vernon, Curt (Chrystal) Smith of Mount Gilead and John R. “Rusty” (Jessica) Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Caleb, Madison and Cassidy Smith; her mother, Creta (Joseph) Berger of Mount Vernon; brother, Jim (Sandy) Dial of Mount Vernon; sisters, Ruth Shackel and Carol Ann Dial of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Phyllis was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
