MOUNT VERNON — John W. Phillips, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away Sept. 26, 2013, at Country Club Retirement Campus.
He was born April 3, 1922, in Mount Vernon, and was the son of the late G. Walter and Ida (Squires) Phillips.
John was a 1940 Mount Vernon High School graduate and was a World War II Army Veteran. He retired from PPG after 38 years of serve with the company.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen (Piar) Phillips; a daughter, Jeanne L. Phillips of Heath; and two grandchildren, Hanna and Dakota “Cody” Phillips.
John was preceded in death by his son, Richard Phillips; an infant daughter, Mary Lou Phillips; three sisters, Betty, Elladean and Marjorie; and a brother, George.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at noon, at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council.
