FREDERICKTOWN — Edwin “Nut” Leedy, 80, of Fredericktown, passed away Aug. 22, 2013, at Country Court Nursing Home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 11, 1933, in Fredericktown, to Ober and Elizabeth Leedy
Ed graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1951 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a staff sargent from 1952 to 1956. For 37 years Ed traveled, taught and worked overseas for General Electric Co. in Thailand, Ethiopia, Turkey, Germany and Australia. He retired from GE after 27 years of service with the company to return to Fredericktown and build his home. Ed was self-employed from home and also worked for Copper Energy Services until retirement. Ed was a family and shop story teller. Many enjoyed his take on life.
Ed is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nila (Williams) Leedy; son, James Leedy of Colorado; three step-daughters, Linda (Rick) Knuckles and Karen (Joe) Kershner both of Mount Vernon, and Kimberly (Thomas) Daughriety of Florida; sister-in-law, Naomi Leedy of Fredericktown; several grandchildren; a great-grandson, Chase "Gobber" Bagwell; and many close friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Blanche Leedy; siblings, Kenneth, Katherine, Mabel, Harley, Lula and Frederick.
Memorial services to celebrate Ed’s life will be held Friday, at 2:30 p.m., at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
