MOUNT VERNON — Muriel (Sieving) Cooper, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away Aug. 18, 2013, in Columbus, at the Victorian Village Nursing Facility.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., April 21, 1933, to Edwin and Lucille (Olson) Sieving.
Muriel graduated with a degree from Iowa State University and received a master’s degree from the University of Iowa. She was a high school teacher and a home economics instructor at the University of Iowa. Muriel was a very kind, caring and supportive person, and anyone that knew her said she always put others before her. She was always cheerful, loved to cook and enjoyed her time in her garden. Muriel also spent time working as a small-business owner in Mount Vernon.
Muriel is survived by her son, Kevin Cooper of Oak Park, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her two sisters, Lois Thompson and Janet Lampi.
The family will observe a graveside service in Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia, Minn., on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11:30 a.m.
