SOUTHPORT, N.C. — Roberta Ann “Birdie” Peterman passed away in Southport, N.C., on Aug. 7, 2013, at the age of 80.
Birdie was born in Mount Vernon, on July 17, 1933. She enjoyed anything to do with horses, listening to jazz and country western music, dancing, gardening, cats and was a lifelong reader. She loved New Orleans and had the time of her life there until Katrina struck, at which point she went north to North Carolina to live near her oldest child, Roxy.
Birdie is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Esther Jane Burnett and Rosalie McCullough of Indianapolis; and her children, Roxanna J. (Paul) Rowe of Southport, N.C., Lou E. Hernandez of Carlsbad, N.M., Jesse L. Brown of Mount Gilead, Rachel M. (Jeff) Christian of Bellville, Asa R. Brown of Cameron, Okla., Nina L. (Homer) Bosley of Walnut, Ky., James E. (Patty) Brown of Muldrow, Okla., and John D. Brown of Muldrow, Okla. Her grandchildren, Gabriel Brown, Ray Jr, Josh and Savannah Hernandez, Jessica and Nick Van Horn, April Shields, Arielle Compton, Tricia Peters and Zachary Brown. Her great-grandchildren are Ryan Flores, Nathan and Nevaeh Van Horn, Mahkai Peterson, Adalyn and Evie Van Horn, William Compton and Rayna Peters.
Birdie was preceded in death by her parents, Rosamund and James Peterman; her brothers, James and David Lee; her son, Robin Brown; and her ex-husband, Richard Brown.
A private Celebration of Life graveside service will be held at the Rosedale Cemetery on Aug. 31, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Feagins officiating. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.
