MOUNT VERNON — Dorothy M. Crouch, 93, of Mount Vernon, died Monday evening, Jan. 28, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 1, 1919, in Alda, Neb., daughter of the late Hobart and Ellen (Urwiller) Cornelius. Dorothy was a member of the Owl Creek Baptist Church for over 77 years, a 50-year member of both the Pythian Sisters 611, Gambier Temple, and the Pleasant Grange. She was also a member of the Pleasant Neighbors. Dorothy loved to sew and spend time with her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Patricia J. (Edward) Montgomery of Marysville, Wash., and Janice M (Richard) Fawcett of Mount Vernon; sons, Charles J. Crouch of Mount Vernon and Wayne S. Crouch of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Donald (Patricia) Cornelius of Utica; and sisters, Dixie Lee Guisinger and Joella Welsh of Florida.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Crouch, on April 2, 1987; daughter, Ellen Louise Short; two grandchildren; brother, Robert Cornelius; and a sister, Fern Cornelius.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Owl Creek Baptist Church, 4158 Owl Creek Road, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Sharon Van Winkle officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
