NEWARK — Ralph Elsworth Miller, 99, of Newark, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Flint Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Mount Vernon, to the late Guy and Minnie Ellen (Blair) Miller. Mr. Miller was a member of Central Christian Church for over 50 years. He began employment as a floor- covering laborer in Knox and Licking counties, worked for the John J. Carroll Department Store as a floor covering buyer, and retired from the OSU-Newark Campus as a superintendent in the building maintenance department.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Mary, whom he married April 25, 1936; two sons, Philip J. Miller of Newark and Michael R. Miller of Springfield; three grandchildren, Dr. Brian James (Kelly) Miller, Tammy (Michael) Lowks of Columbus and Kristy (James) Miller; 10 great-grandchildren, Ethan J., Jacob M., Andrew G., Natalie, Cassandra “Cassie,” Tucker, Simon, Daisy, Elijah and Henry; two nieces and two nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Dr. James B. (Sally) Miller; and a sister, Dorothy (Chester) Vess.
A private memorial service will be held and inurnment will take place at a later date in Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
