MOUNT VERNON — Della Marie Halpin, 96, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Kettering, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2010.
Della was a longtime member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Kettering. She was a co-founder and charter member of the Kittyhawk Ladies Golf Association, and was active with the St. Anthony Parish PTA and Rosie Miller Bridge Club.
Della is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn (Norman) Schmotzer, Barbara McCleary, Janet (Rick) Stutzman; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerome Halpin Jr. and John (Ann) Halpin; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard (Berdella) Hemmelgarn, Edward (Mary Ann) Hemmelgarn, Ivo (Doris) Hemmelgarn; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eileen (Harold) Heuker and Anna Lee (Jack) Kunkel; brother-in-law, Ralph Halpin; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Halpin Sr.; parents, Joseph T. and Mary (Backs) Hemmelgarn; brother, Albert; and sisters, Bertilla, Alma, Dorothy and Alberta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Tuesday, Oct. 5, at noon at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering, with the Rev. Father Thomas Meyer as celebrant. Interment will follow Mass at Heritage Hills Memorial Gardens in Springboro. The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439.
