Freda M. Riel
MOUNT VERNON — Freda Marie Riel, 71, of Wooster Road, Mount
Vernon, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born on April 2, 1936, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to Earl and Virginia (Fordyce) Hall. Freda was a member of the Seed Sowers Garden Club of Danville, the Wild Life Association and Amity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending quality time on her back porch, whether it was watching her family play and converse or if it was the quiet time she had admiring the birds feed and play. Freda also enjoyed her “road trips” and luncheons with family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by four sons, Ronald (Cathy) Riel of Mount Vernon, Jerry (Sherry) Riel of Howard, Larry (Robin) Riel of Utica and Rich (Lynn) Riel of Howard; two daughters, Brenda (Donald) Holbrook of Columbus and Judy (Ken) Price of Howard; 14 grandchildren, Rachel Riel Alfrey, Renee Riel, Brian Riel, Emily Price, Darren Price, Allison Price McDonald, Tres Holbrook, Eric Holbrook, Amanda Riel, Jenna Riel, Katie Robinson, Wesley Wheeler, Randy Riel and Daniel Riel; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Brody; three brothers, Jack (Char) Hall of Parkersburg, W.Va., Lloyd (Goldine) Hall of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Herman (Mary) Hall of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; two sisters, Linda Brosky of West Virginia and June Yocum of Little Hocking; and stepparents, Hubert and Melba Allman.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Roy Riel.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Philip McMurrin will be officiating. Burial will follow in Amity Cemetery.

Herbert F. Smith
CINCINNATI — Herbert F. Smith, 79, of Cincinnati, formerly
of Mount Vernon and Newark, died Dec. 20, 2006, at Hospice of Cincinnati.
He was a 50-year member of Masons, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, retired from Kaiser Aluminum, Newark Works after 33 years. He was also one of the founders of Pacemakers Drag strip. Herbert served in Navy during World War II aboard LST 863, where he was the youngest crewmember and served in Navy reserves for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dorothy Faye Hockenberry Smith; son, Larry, and wife Laura, son, Paul, and daughter, Diane Farley; grandchildren, Jennifer, Brett, Amber, Holly, Katie and Raven; stepson, Eric Hockenberry, and wife, Rita, and their son, Evan; and stepdaughter, Sue, and husband, Jim Carl.
His wife, Catherine Shutt Smith, sister, Olive West, and granddaughter, Paula, preceded him in death. Masonic graveside services will be held July 2 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens, Mount Vernon.
