William E. Bartlett
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — William Edward “Bill” Bartlett, 88, of Indianapolis, Ind., passed away May 14, 2007.

He was born Jan. 6, 1919, in Mount Vernon to William and Bessie Bartlett. Bill served in the Army during World War II. He was a heavy equipment operator for 45 years. He was a member of Beech Grove Lodge 694 F&AM, Order of the Eastern Star Beech Grove Chapter 465, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and the Mini Mystics.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Bartlett; daughter, Charlotte Ann “Charlie” Wyant; and brother, Wilbur Bartlett.

Survivors include his daughter, Wilma “Willie” (W. Douglas) Sausville; son, Ivan “Rick” Wyant II; sisters, Anna Jackson and Martine Swank of Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon, and Nina Carpenter of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Terrie Wyant, Tonie (George) Hoffman, Ivan “Moose” Wyant III, William Sausville, Ricki Sausville Marshall, Joely (Dan) Richardson, Tammy Teed and Jimmy Parham; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, Indianapolis, was in charge of arrangements. He was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery.

M.D. Crowe
NEWARK — Funeral arrangements are incomplete for M.D. Crowe of Newark, who died June 18, 2007, at Arlington Care Center, Newark. The Law-Baker Funeral Home of Utica is assisting the family with arrangements.

Brenda L. Harris
REGINA, Ky. — Brenda L. Harris, 44, of Regina, Ky., formerly of Mount Vernon, Ohio, lost her one-year battle with lung cancer on June 17, 2007.

She was born Sept. 19, 1962, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Donald and Mary Ann Huffman. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Roadcreek in Draffin, Ky.

She is survived by her husband Larry; son, David; daughter, Lisa; brothers, Don (Cindy) Huffman of Indiana and Kenny Huffman of Fredericktown; sisters, Charlene (Marty) McCament of Pataskala and Barb (Joe) Litzinger of Florida; nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Ernestine Vance.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Edith Hall; grandfather, Willis “Ike” Huffman; uncles, Paul and Charles Huffman; and an aunt, Ellen Ramsey.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 20, at 5 p.m. at Lucas and Son Funeral Home in Pikeville, Ky., where services will be Thursday, June 21, at 11 a.m.

John Phillips Jr.
MOUNT VERNON — John R. Phillips Jr., 84, of Mount Vernon died Monday, June 18, 2007, at the Country Court Nursing Center following an extended illness.

John was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Knox County to John R. Phillips Sr. and Naomi R. (Smith) Phillips and had spent his lifetime in Knox County. He was a 1940 graduate of Fredericktown High School and on June 6, 1943, married Angelene E. (Cochran) Phillips.

John maintained a farm in Liberty Township for several years and retired in 1979 from Ebersole Processing in Morrow County where he had been employed as a professional meat cutter. He served as a Liberty Township Trustee for seven years and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and had a special love and respect for the soil. John also had been certified and licensed as a small airplane pilot and for many years maintained a boat on Lake Erie. John was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Thrall Masonic Lodge, both in Fredericktown.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Angelene E. (Cochran) Phillips; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Gary Frye of Marietta; his son, David Phillips of Fredericktown; six grandchildren, Dr. Bret (Erin) Frye of Marietta, Layne (Trent) Shidaker of Troy, Mich., Justin (Melissa) Frye of Chicago, Dr. John (Molly) Frye of Marietta, Dale (Abbie) Picciuto of Sandusky and Joshua Phillips of Columbus; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Howard Phillips of Fredericktown; and his sister, Ruth Coulter of Clearwater, Fla.

His parents preceded him in death.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Fredericktown with the Rev. Ray Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
