Doyle C. Braddock
MOUNT VERNON — Doyle C. Braddock, 82, of East Chestnut Street, Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.

He was born May 24, 1924, in Knox County to the late Sterling and Mary Edna (Baker) Braddock. Doyle was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church. He retired in 1986 after 35 years of employment as a lineman for the Ohio Power Co. Doyle served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 58 years, D. Joan (Owen) Braddock; two sons, David (Jane) Braddock of Fredericksburg, Ohio, and Richard (Christine) Braddock of Madison, Wis.; two daughters, Barbara (Stephen) Crandall of Whitehouse, Ohio, and Carol Kuninger of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Dale (Mary) Braddock of Fredericktown and Gordon (Shirley) Braddock of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, William Braddock, Raymond Braddock, Wendall Braddock and a twin brother Dalton Braddock.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral. The Rev. James Magaw will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Dora J. Payne
MOUNT VERNON — Dora J. Payne, 86, of Decatur Drive, Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon.

She was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Mechanicsburg to the late Forest and Myrtle (Winslow) Redman.

She is survived by her loving son, John Payne of Mount Vernon.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Payne Jr.; a son, Byron Payne; a sister, Suzette Beatty; and three brothers, Robert Redman, Herman Redman and Roscoe Redman.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, where friends may call two hours prior. The Rev. Jamie Gump will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.

Herbert Schunke
FREDERICKTOWN — Herbert “Herbie” Schunke, 80, of Yankee Street, Fredericktown, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Breslau, East Germany, to the late Ernest and Ida Schunke. Herbie loved to garden and grow flowers and particularly enjoyed steam engines. He was employed for over 30 years in the maintenance department for the Mohican Lodge. Herbie also enjoyed his time right after work where he would spend many hours with his beloved friends at the Tall Timbers Social Club before returning home.

He is survived by his son, Larry (Cheryl) Schunke of Fredericktown; three daughters, Linda (Mike) Johnson of Marengo, Laurie Schunke of Columbus and Lisa (Keith) Thurston of Chicago; five grandchildren; 10 brother and sisters still living in Germany; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Willis of Mount Vernon

Besides his parents, Herbie was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Schunke.

Friends may call Friday, April 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. A service will be held Saturday at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard Prater officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.
