Clarence K. Gordon
MOUNT VERNON — Clarence Keith Gordon, 58, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home.

Mary L. McBride
MOUNT VERNON — Mary Louise (Pierce) McBride, 87, of Mount Vernon died March 3, 2007, at Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon after a 30-year battle with diabetes.

She was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Butler, Pa., the daughter of Ellis E. and Elsie E. (McKee) Pierce of Harrisville, Pa. She lived with her husband in Grove City, Pa., until 1967, when she and her husband were transferred to Mount Vernon, Ohio, for Cooper-Bessemer Co. She had also been a winter resident of the St. Petersburg, Fla., area since 1981, when she and her husband retired. She had been an avid golfer at both Grove City, Pennsylvania Country Club and Mount Vernon, Ohio Country Club, and past winner of the Ladies Country Club Championship.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn L. (Gene) James, granddaughter, Julie A. (Mark) Bingham, great-granddaughters, Emily G. Bingham and Molly A. Bingham, and brother-in-law, John (Ruth) McBride, all of Mount Vernon; sister, Jean McFadden of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Raymond E. “Bunk” Pierce (R. E. Pierce Trucking Co.) of Harrisville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William W. “Wink” McBride, in 2001; her mother, Elsie E. (McKee) Pierce, in 1987; father, Ellis E. Pierce in 1976 (E. E. Pierce Trucking Co.); sister-in-law, Jacqueline (Walters) Pierce, in 1989, all of Harrisville, Pa.; brother-in-law, Lester McFadden, in 2001 of Orlando, Fla.; niece, Beverly J. (McBride) Fowler of Mount Vernon, Ohio, in 1993.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Harrisville, Pa. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

Joe R. Mellen
FREDERICKTOWN — Joe Richard Mellen, 68, of Fredericktown passed away Saturday evening, March 3, 2007, at the Ohio State University Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 11, 1938, in Columbus to Joseph R. and Edna M. (Schneider) Mellen. He is a retired data processing manager for the state of Ohio with over 30 years of service. He is an original member of the Delaware Coon Hunters Club, he enjoyed all sports, but favored baseball over the others, and was an avid and knowledgeable baseball card collector.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Cathy (Curt) Humphereys of Delaware and Cheryl Mellen of Radnor; one son, Michael (Michele) of Powell; two stepsons, Mark Dickey of Dallas, Texas, and Chris (Trina) Dickey of Galloway; one stepdaughter, Becky (Gary) Lewis of Pickerington; one sister, Patricia Colley of Delaware; his mother, Edna Mellen, also of Delaware; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, in 1992.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Delaware Chapel, 1510 W. William St., Delaware, where service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Cheshire Cemetery.
