Minnie E. Hartzler
MANSFIELD — Minnie E. (Griffon) Hartzler, 97, of
Mansfield died Jan. 7, 2007, in the home of her granddaughter where she resided
the past nine years.
Minnie was born Oct. 14, 1907, to L. Frederick and Elizabeth (Gehring) Griffon. On March 17, 1934, she married Robert Hartzler, and together they established and developed the Richland and Knox County Apple Hill Orchards.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann Kilgore and Christine Hartzler; two sons, David Hartzler and Jonathan Hartzler; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Hazel Schubert.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Joseph Hartzler and Mark Alan Hartzler; two grandsons; three brothers, William, Joseph and Edward Griffon; and four sisters, Pearl Klotzle, Lillian (Nan) Wilford, Ida Mae Reed and Marilyn Dougherty.
Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Pastor Jack Sharp will officiate. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to MedCentral Hospice, Lexington First Presbyterian Church or the charity of donor’s choice.

Mattie E. Smith
DANVILLE — Mattie Elizabeth Smith, 85, of Neil Road,
Danville, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, in the Knox Community Hospital ICU.
She was born Dec. 29, 1921, at her home in Cooperdale to Emmett and Inez (Kendall) Thomas. On July 25, 1941, she was married to Leon Smith. She was an LPN and retired from Lakeview Haven. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and the American Legion Post 650.
She is survived by her husband, Leon, to whom she was married 65 years; her children, Kay (Roger) Sloan, Joyce (Bob) Boling, Jane Durbin, Jim (Barb) Smith, Ann Smith and Sue Dunagan; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Kate Whitlock; and a brother, Grant Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Silas and Lester Thomas; a son, Richard Smith; a grandson, David Durbin; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Crowner; and a son-in-law, David Dunagan.
A graveside service will be held and announced at a later date in Union Hill Cemetery near Cooperdale.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Danville Fire Department, P.O. Box 526, Danville, OH 43014; or to a charity of the donor’s choice. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements.

MOUNT VERNON — Michelle Smith, 51, of Vernonview Drive,
Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at the Mount Vernon Developmental
Center. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder
Funeral Home.
