Alice A. Frye
HOWARD — Alice A. Frye, 87, of Glenmonte Drive, Howard,
passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 16, 2006, at the Country Court Nursing Center
in Mount Vernon.
She was born June 23, 1919, in Brandon, a daughter of Clarence Peter and Mellise Ann (Moreland) Saunders. Alice had worked for Shellmar from 1940 to 1949 and International Paper in Wooster from 1953 to 1960. She had been a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1949.
Surviving Alice are her son, Gary, and his wife, Patricia Frye, of Howard; brothers, Gerald and Clyde Saunders of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Myrta Shellenbarger of Mount Vernon.
In addition to her parents, two brothers, Clarence and Donald Saunders, and sisters, Opal Hissong Roache, Anna Mae Saunders, Garnet Saunders and Esther Ferne Willey, preceded Alice in death.
Following Alice’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is caring for the family with these arrangements.

Josephine ‘Joey’ Harman
MOUNT VERNON — Josephine “Joey” Harman,
85, of Campbell Road, Mount Vernon, formerly of Heath and Newark, passed away
Saturday evening, Dec. 16, 2006, at her daughter’s residence surrounded
by her caring family.
She was born Sept. 10, 1921, at Maidsville, W.Va., a daughter of Adam and Victoria (Vinskoski) Pawlak. She was a member of the Heath Church of Christ, and the ladies auxiliary of the Moose Lodge and American Legion in Newark, and the Eagles in Buckeye Lake. She also had a great love for sewing, working in her flower beds and cooking for her family.
Joey is survived by loving children, Burma Van Winkle, with whom she resided, and Thomas (Shelia) Harman of Stevensville, Mont.; grandchildren, Lisa (David) Bell, Robert (Denise) Van Winkle, Troy Harman, Tracy (Jessica) Harman and Jody (Brent) Hunsucker; great-grandchildren, Dusten, Jessica and Rachael Bell, Cody and Colten Van Winkle and Jada Hunsucker; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Toni Gelco of Pittsboro, N.C., Mary Kilianski of Richfield, Utah, and Stephanie Long of New Carisle.
Besides her parents, her husband, Theodore Harman, brothers, Stanley Harold, Walter and Nicky Pawlak, and Sophie Pawlak preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Larry Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Newark Memorial Gardens.

James P. McClanahan
UTICA — James P. “Jim” McClanahan, 53,
of Utica died Dec. 15, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 22, 1953, in Mount Vernon to George Perry and Betty Ruth (Street) McClanahan.
He is survived by many loving family members; including his sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and grandchildren.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the North-Dilley Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.

Robert L. McFarland
FALLSBURG — Robert L. McFarland, 68, of Fallsburg
died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at his residence.
Robert was born Aug. 25, 1938, in Crayon, Ohio, to Wilbur James McFarland and Nellie Glenna (Fry) McFarland and had lived in the Fallsburg area for the past 10 years. He had been employed as a woodworker for CAP and Associates in Reynoldsburg.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy (Phalen) McFarland, whom he married Dec. 6, 1959; his daughter, Melinda (Jack) Hamilton of Chesterville; two sons, Robert “Joe” (Donna) McFarland of Mount Vernon and Dennis (Joan) McFarland of Frazeysburg; six grandchildren, Darryl McFarland, Elizabeth McFarland, Eric McFarland, Robert O’Quinn, Nancy Boudinot and R.J. O’Quinn; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents a sister, Mary Lou Hodge, preceded him in death.

Daniel Milligan
MANSFIELD — Daniel Milligan, 54, of Mansfield died Tuesday,
Dec. 12, 2006.
He was born June 7, 1952, in Richland County, to Lloyd and Esther L. (Buzzard) Milligan. He was employed at Therm-O-Disc for over 20 years. Dan had a number of good friends in his life and enjoyed golfing, watching sports, NASCAR racing, and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Joshua) Leist of Massachusetts and Lori (Jeremy) Hysell of Fredericktown; his mother, Esther Milligan of Mansfield; a brother, Richard Milligan of Mansfield; a grandson, Alex Daniel Milligan; and a granddaughter, Katelynn Leist.
He was preceded in death by his father.

John M. Roof
GALENA — John M. “Stick” Roof, 76, of Galena
died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2006, at Delaware Court in Delaware.
He was born April 6, 1930, in Galena to Harold and Edith (Gorsuch) Roof. Stick had worked as a laborer at the former Galena Brickyard and Ranco in Delaware.
He is survived by son, Michael (Diane) Roof of Delaware; grandchildren, Andrea (Curtiss) Bennett, Robert Thomas and Kathren Thomas; great-grandchildren, Emily, Megan, Geoff and Cody; sister, Judith Roof of Galena; brother, William (Janice) Roof of Orlando, Fla.; special niece, Lori Roof; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Cheryl Roof, on July 6, 1979; sisters, Barbara Goodrich and M. Lorraine Crowl.

Donna V. Steck
MARENGO — Donna V. Steck, 81, of Marengo died Friday evening,
Dec. 15, 2006, at Bennington Glen Nursing Center in Marengo.
She was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Knox County to Dewey and Vera (Bishop) Strong. She was a member of the Marengo United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 610 Auxiliary and VFW Post 8054 Auxiliary.
She is survived children, Robert (Terry) Steck of Marengo, Bonnie (Gary) Dowalter of Marengo, Donnie (Judy) Steck of Cardington; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evajean (Richard) Dawson of Mount Gilead.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Fred W. Steck, on Dec. 29, 2004; and brothers, Wendell and Gail Strong.

Barbara Stoehr
MOUNT VERNON — Barbara Teresa (Kurz) Stoehr, 86, of Mount
Vernon died Friday morning, Dec. 15, 2006.
She was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Stuttgart, Germany, and was the daughter of Wilhelm and Teresa Kurz. She was married Sept. 22, 1949, in Germany to Frank Josef Stoehr who preceded her in death in 1987. Barbara was employed at Mansfield General Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and volunteered for many causes within the church including helping in the cafeteria and with bingo. She was a member of a sewing group at Mansfield General Hospital. A most beloved mother and grandmother, she was devoted to her family and church.
She is survived by a son, Frank William (Lisa Marie) Stoehr of Mount Vernon; one grandson, Elliot Josef Stoehr of Mount Vernon; aunts, Frieda Boebel of Mansfield and Marie Curtiss of Mayfield Village; and caregiver, Erma Elliott of Mount Vernon.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
