Irene Chadwick
SUNBURY — Irene Chadwick, 74, of the Sunbury and Galena area died Sunday
afternoon, Nov. 12, 2006, at her residence.
She was born on Oct. 27, 1932, in Greenup, Ky., to the late Walter T. Smith and Martha (Garris) Schaefer. Irene was a faithful and diligent member of the True Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and her flowers. Her greatest accomplishment in her life was her family and she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters, Martha (Frank) Kirk of Mount Vernon, Rita (Jim) Longshore of Center Village and Mabel (Scott) Engert of Centerburg; sons, Don (Margie) Bernard of Sparta and Greg (Holly) Chadwick of Centerburg; stepdaughters, Ruth (Arthur) Burton of Del Ray Beach, Fla., and Mary (Larry) Carmen of Gahanna; stepson, John Chadwick of Shady Cove, Ore.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren nieces and nephews; brothers, Jack (Joyce) Smith of Westerville and Robert Schaefer of Annapolis, Md.; sister, Patsy Marsiglia of Westerville; and dearest and best friend, Iva Shaw of Sunbury.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald S. “Pete” Chadwick; son, Dale “Squirrel” Bernard; and stepdaughter, Alice Kenny.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. with J.R. Smith and Frank Kirk officiating. Interment will follow in the Berkshire Cemetery.

Ralph E. Hammond
MOUNT VERNON — Ralph E. Hammond, 91, of Mount Vernon died Monday, Nov. 13,
2006, at the Country Club Retirement Center in Mount Vernon.
Ralph was born Oct. 26, 1915, in Newark to Ted and Mary (Moul) Hammond and had spent his lifetime in the Licking and Knox County areas. He had owned and operated Hammond’s Drive In for 20 years and retired from Kenyon College in Gambier as a security officer.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, Mount Zion Lodge 9 F&AM, Valley of Columbus Consistory and Aladdin Shrine in Columbus and Baldwin Shrine Club in Mount Vernon. Ralph enjoyed many hobbies; his favorite was collecting and repairing grandfather clocks.
Surviving are his wife, Julieanne (Gould) Hammond; two sons, Robert (Debbie) Hammond of Mount Vernon and David (Sandra) Hammond of Upper Arlington; seven grandchildren, Amy, Shawn, Curt, Craig, Julie, Joy and June; and eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Dallas, Isabella, Matthew, Mia, Megan, Ian and Tyler.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by twin great-grandsons, Gage Patrick Quinlivan and Colin James Quinlivan; and two sisters, Mildred Carver, and Edna Mae Dildine.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050, with the Rev. Mark Wildermuth officiating. Entombment will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., where Mount Zion Lodge 9 F&AM will conduct memorial services following the calling hours.
