Daniel Clifton Bickley
LAKEWOOD — Daniel Clifton Bickley, 46, of Lakewood, Ohio, formerly of Mount Vernon, was born July 21, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio, and died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at his residence after a brief illness.

He is survived by daughters, Ryanne and Alexsa Bickley of Houston, Texas; a brother, Brian Bickley of Massillon, Ohio; Dan’s girlfriend, Kathy O’Connor of Lakewood; and his step-family, Barbara Bickley of Lady Lake, Fla., Valorie (Bill) Crusey of Libertyville, Ill., Elaine (Mark) Hauberg of Mount Vernon, Ohio and Eric (Donna) Whiston of Glen Gardener, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sally A. Bickley and William H. Bickley. A commemorative bench sits near the Marblehead Lighthouse on the shore of Lake Erie in memory of both Dan and his father.

A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. at Harcourt Parrish, 201 W. Brooklyn St., Gambier, OH 43022.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a contribution be made to a memorial fund that has been set up for his daughters and can be sent to First-Knox National Bank, c/o Daniel Bickley Memorial Fund, 1 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.

Andrew Mavromates
NEW ORLEANS — Mr. Andrew Peter Mays Mavromates, age 79 years, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, La. Mr. Mavromates is the beloved husband of the late Mary Kaler Mavromates. Loving father of Kathryn Mavromates Zetzmann and husband Robert and Peter Gregory Mavromates and wife Libby. Son of the late Peter Andrew Mavromates and Pepena Mavromates. Loving grandfather of Robert Zetzmann III, Kaler Zetzmann, Andrew Mavromates II and James Mavromates. Brother of Stanley Mavromates and wife Rosayn and the late Peter Mavromates. Uncle of Sperry Kaler, Jeff Kaler, Patricia Gutierrez, Peter Mavromates, Stanley Mavromates, Terry Tighe, Jimmy Tighe, Kevin Tighe and the late Chris Kaler. Cousin of Mary Pavlides. He is also survived by the family’s dog Cookie.

Mr. Mavromates was a native of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and a graduate of Mount Vernon High School. He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his service he attended Ohio State University where he graduated in 1950 with his Bachelor’s of Science in geology. While a student at Ohio State University, he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. After graduation he moved to Mount Carmel, Ill., where he founded Cavalier Oil Co. He later moved to Minneapolis, Minn., and served as vice president of American Republic Insurance Co. He was a Shriner and a member of the Order of Elks. After his career he retired to Austin, Texas, and in 2003 he moved to New Orleans where his life was enriched by Ms. Eugenia Shirley. In his years in New Orleans he made many new devoted friends. Mr. Mavromates was a dedicated father, grandfather and friend and will be sadly missed by all the lives he touched.

A Visitation, Trisagion and Greek Orthodox funeral service will be held at Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, with the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow immediately in Mound View Cemetery. Barbara Jean Murphy
MOUNT VERNON — Barbara Jean Murphy, 56, of Miller Avenue, passed away on Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at her home.

She was born on June 17, 1950, in Mount Vernon to the late Stanton and Pauline (Jackson) Hill. Barbara worked at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Mount Vernon. She was an avid bowler and participated in the Busy Bees bowling league. Barbara was also active with PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise) and TOPS. All who knew her will sadly miss her.

She is survived by her loving family, her husband of 38 years, James “Murf” Murphy; two daughters, Kimberly (Edward) Cleveland of Chicago, Ill., and Sonia Murphy of Westerville; two sisters, Viola Scott of Gambier and Beverly Joann Hill of Mount Vernon; many nieces and nephews including Lina and Micah McQuigg of Mount Vernon; brothers and sisters-in-law, William “Bubbles” (Mary) Murphy, Jack (Lynn) Murphy, David Murphy, Ocie Murphy and Sady (R.C.) Davis; and many cousins.

Friends may call Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jamie Gump will be officiating.

Leonard C. Newhouse
MOUNT VERNON — Leonard C. Newhouse, 63, of Hilltop Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, at his home. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
