Goldie I. Bower
MOUNT VERNON — Goldie I. Bower, 74, of Mount Vernon passed away Oct. 5, 2006, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born on May 15, 1932, in Sandyville, W.Va., to Harold C. and Alice E. (Balderson) Bower. Goldie attended New Hope Industries here in Mount Vernon.

She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Shepard and Debra Bower, both of Mount Vernon; a sister-in-law, Ethel Bower of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis and Blaine Bower; a twin sister, Gladys Bower and Wanda Bower.

Friends may call on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the North-Dilley Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Independence Cemetery in Sandyville, W.Va.

Frederick ‘Bud’ Leedy
FREDERICKTOWN — Frederick E. “Bud” Leedy, 81, of Ankenytown Road, Fredericktown, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon.

Bud was born May 4, 1925, in Knox County to Ober and Elizabeth (Yarger) Leedy and had spent his lifetime in the Fredericktown area. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1947. He retired from Cooper Energy Services in Mount Vernon in 1987 after 45 years of faithful employment. Bud loved to raise garden and had a vegetable market for many years. He was also an avid trapper and was a fur dealer for many years.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Naomi (Bechtel) Leedy; his son, Thomas (Barbara) Taylor-Leedy of Fredericktown; two daughters, Marilyn MacFarlane of Mansfield and Carol (Jerry) Guthrie of Ashland; four grandchildren, Joel Guthrie and Jay Guthrie, Heather MacFarlane and Garrett Taylor-Leedy; two sisters, Kathryn Beer of Mansfield and Lula Shultz of Mount Vernon; and two brothers, Harley (Ruby) Leedy of Mount Vernon and Edwin (Nila) Leedy of Fredericktown.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Leedy; and his sister, Mabel Tharp.

Friends may call Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, with a graveside service to follow at Owl Creek Cemetery in Ankenytown. The Revs. Donald Farner and Tom Ricker will officiate.

Andrew P. Mavromates
NEW ORLEANS — Andrew P. Mavromates of New Orleans, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at New Orleans. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

Michael R. Taylor
MANSFIELD — Michael R. Taylor, 33, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006.

Michael was born in Mansfield on June 22, 1973, and was the son of Mark W. Taylor and Linda M. Conners Johnson. Mike lived in the area most of his life and was a 1992 graduate of Clear Fork High School. He attended North Central State College for two years toward earning his nursing degree and was a phlebotomist for Knox Community Hospital. Previously, he was employed by Crane Plumbing.

Mike is survived by his wife, Darla J. Taylor; daughter, Kelsey Taylor of Lexington; stepson, Cole Gerisch, and stepdaughter, Alex Gerisch, both of Ontario; mother and stepfather, Linda and Larry Johnson of Medina; father and stepmother, Mark and Lynda Taylor of Galion; grandmother, Evelyn Conners; brother and sister-in-law, Marjoe and Brooke Taylor of Ashland; and cousins, Jimmy and Sharon Conners.

Mike was a gentle loving man and will be missed by everyone, especially his children.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Finefrock-Williams Funeral Home, 350 Marion Ave., where funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Rich Rader officiating. Graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
