Arthur L. Carter
MOUNT VERNON — Arthur Lewis Carter, 73, of Mount Vernon passed away Monday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2006, at the Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1933, in Mount Vernon, a son of the late Arthur and Pearl (Williams) Carter. Arthur had worked for Chattanooga Glass Co. in Mount Vernon as a glass bottle maker.

Surviving Arthur is a brother, Dale Carter of Hilliard; and a sister, Mary E. Marshall of Sacramento, Calif.

In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by a brother, George Carter; and three sisters, Sara Thomas, Norma Carter and Elizabeth Sanders.

The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 6, from noon until the time of a memorial service at 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Inurnment will take place in the Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon at the convenience of the family.

J. Kay Harding
MOUNT VERNON — J. Kay Harding, 66, of Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1939, in Mount Vernon to the late Harold and Mabel (Bell) Fawcett. Kay worked as a clerk for Taylor’s IGA in Fredericktown.

She is survived by a daughter, Jackie (Troy) Thompson of Mount Vernon; two sons, Clark Githens of Columbus and Pruett Harding Jr. of Mount Vernon; a granddaughter, Felicia (Matt) Rowe; a grandson, Scott Stover; two great-grandchildren, Austin Muck and Noah Muck; three brothers, David (Barb) Fawcett of Mount Vernon, James (Doris) Fawcett of Florida and Ronald Fawcett of Florida; three sisters, Irene (Wes) Gadd of Mount Vernon, Patricia Fawcett of Florida and Nancy (Jim) O’Brien of Fremont.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Pruett Harding Sr.; two brothers, Dwight Fawcett and Robert Fawcett; and a sister, Rosie Hardesty.

M. Carole James
CLEARWATER, Fla. — M. Carole James, 73, of Clearwater, Fla., and formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at her daughter’s home in Lancaster, Ohio.

She was born on Aug. 5, 1933, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Curt and Helen (Agnew) Robinson. Carole retired in 1994 after 18 years of employment as a clerk with Big Bear grocery store. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by a son, Thomas (Debbie) Wells of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Candy Wells of Orlando, Fla., Karla (Johnny) Hubbard of Gambier and Ginger (Tom) Caito of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Hallie Riggs of Mount Vernon, Jeanne Doherty of Mount Vernon and Alice Whirl of Mount Gilead.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Luther Wells; second husband, Thorney Kirk; third husband, Cloren James; and a son, Timothy Wells.

Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. Mr. Trevor Caito will be officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.

Spurgeon E. McNerlin
MOUNT VERNON — Spurgeon E. McNerlin, 87, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was a retired Teamster, N&W Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; children, Catherine (Chester) Roberts, Betty (Richard) Sims, Charles (Kay) McNerlin, Linda (Keith) Ogier and Bernice Bird; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Friends will be received Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Maeder-Quint-Tiberi Funeral Home, 1068 S. High St., Columbus, OH 43206; (614) 444-1185. Funeral service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Robert R. Riddle
MOUNT VERNON — Robert R. “Bob” Riddle, 69, of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at University of Pittsburg Medical-Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born Feb. 19, 1937, in Pickaway County, the son of Russell and Jean (Loofbourrow) Riddle, who preceded him in death. He was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon; Masonic Lodge 269, F&AM, at Mount Sterling; Shrine; Scottish Rite. Bob was a regional sales manager of Moorman’s Manufacturing (ADM).

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy E. Riddle; son, Doug Riddle of Lakeland, Fla.; daughter, Lynnette (Greg) Blair of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Cassi, Katie, Taylor Blair; sisters, Jo Riddle of Cincinnati, Betsy R. Stephen of Shellbyville, Ind.; and nephew, J.R. Stephen of Indiana.

A funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at the United Church, 30 E. Columbus St., Mount Sterling, OH 43143. The Rev. David Baker will officiate with burial following in Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, 331 W. Main St., Mount Sterling, with a Masonic service at 8.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Lung Transplant Research, c/o Porter Funeral Home.
