Mack E. Hankins
MIAMI, Fla. — Mack E. Hankins, 81, died Aug.16, 2006, at Baptist Hospital, Miami, Fla.

He was born Nov. 10, 1924 to Jesse A. and Victoria (Beavers) Hankins in Tazewell County, Va. Mr. Hankins worked for many years at White Westinghouse in Mansfield. He was also self-employed in the heating business. He called Mansfield his home for over 50 years. For the last two years he had been making his home in Miami, Fla., with his daughter. Mack began attending the Owl Creek Harmony Primitive Baptist Church in 1945. His family had a long-standing relationship with the Primitive Baptist Church, which goes back to the early settlers in southwestern Virginia for whom Baptist Valley in Tazewell County was named. He was a firm believer in the teachings of the Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by Creta (Summit) Hankins, his wife of 59 years; daughter, Sallie Hankins Hoovler, Miami, Fla.; son Mark A. (Bridget) Hankins, Mansfield; grandchildren, Emily Hoovler, Los Angeles, Calif., Doug (Sarah) Hankins, Columbus, Jennifer Hankins Pore (Scott), Lexington, and Jacob Hankins, Mansfield; great-grandchildren, Raven Hankins, Collin Hankins, and Anastasia Hankins; one sister, Jessie Mitchell, Centerburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas D., John Y., Wade O., Arthur C. and Prentiss; and a grandson, Derek Hankins.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wappner Funeral Home located at 100 Lexington-Springmill Ave., Mansfield, where funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 24, at 10:30 a.m. Elders Darvin Edwards and Jack Griffith will officiate. Interment will be in the Mansfield Memorial Park, Mansfield.

Dean N. Pealer
MOUNT VERNON — Dean N. Pealer, 65, of Mount Vernon passed away early this morning at Country Court Nursing Center. The North-Dilley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Lucille Schlingerman
HOWARD — F. Lucille Schlingerman, 71, of Howard, and formerly of Westerville, passed away at her home on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006.

She was born on Dec. 13, 1934, in Hemlock to Steve and Florence (Reed) Arkley. Lucille was a member of the Church of the Messiah in Westerville and attended the Howard United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Florence Arkley; a daughter, Cheryl Lukasiewicz of Howard; a son, Rod (Lori) Schlingerman of Howard; five grandchildren, Angela Schlingerman, Joseph and Karen Lukasiewicz, Leslie and Melissa Nielsen; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Matthew White and Jaylyn Smith.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Schlingerman; her father, Steve Arkley; and a daughter, Deborah Nielsen.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. A service will be held Wednesday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Orr officiating. A graveside service will follow in Burnside Cemetery (south of Galena) at 2 p.m.
