DELAWARE — Daniel R. Cring, 61, of Delaware, and former Knox County Career
Center instructor, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at his home.

Stephen M. Dix
MOUNT VERNON — Stephen M. “Steve” Dix, 65, of Hamtramck Street,
Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Knox Community Hospital in
Mount Vernon.
He was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Millersburg to Gerald Dix and Grace (Sidle) Dix Van Sickle. Steve worked as a security guard for TRW. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1959 to 1963. Steve was a life member of the AMVETS Post 95 and a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges of Mount Vernon.
He is survived by a son, Dale (Nina) Dix of North Carolina; two daughters, Stephanie (Tom) Scott of Virginia and Tamara (George) Matthews of North Carolina; four grandchildren; three brothers, Charles (Rose) Dix of Wooster, Ray (Janice) Dix of McAllister, Okla., and Wayne (Marlene) Sigler of Wooster; and a sister, Christena (Ura) Mast of Mount Vernon.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Sigler, Milton Sigler and Don Sigler.
A graveside service, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with a memorial service to follow at noon at the AMVETS Post 95 Recreation Building. Mary A. Hubbard
SUNBURY — Mary A. Hubbard, 74, of Sunbury died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at
Mount Carmel East Medical Center in Columbus.
She was born in Council, Va., on Dec. 10, 1931, to the late Joseph and Nora (Presley) Duncan.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harry Hubbard; sons, Phillip Hubbard, Carl Hubbard and Thomas Hubbard; daughters, Alice Sheets and Tena Stringer; son-in-law, Larry Jones; daughter-in-law, Edna Hubbard; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence Duncan and Joseph Duncan; sisters, Dorothy Walton and Virginia Johnson; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Rose; special “sister,” Mary Sue White; and the extended Hubbard family, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Audry Hubbard; daughter, Arnetta Jones; and a brother, James Duncan.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Crate Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in Galena Cemetery.

Russell B. Smith
DANVILLE — Russell Bartlett Smith, 52, of 28461 Mickley Road, Danville,
died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 23, 1953, in Charleston, W.Va., to Nedra (Payne) Wears. He married Jeannie (Hammons) Smith on Feb. 17, 1996, who survives. He was a self-employed truck driver.
Also surviving are four sons, Tyler Blake Smith and Taylor Bartlett Smith of Danville, and Trevor R.B. Smith and Preston L.J. Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Alanda Renee (Daryl Mezie) Smith of Danville; three grandchildren, Aaron Steven Mezie, Justin Bartlett Smith and Elizabeth Ann Smith; one brother, Tom (Marie) Wears of Millersburg; three uncles, Lawrence Payne, Harold (Iva Mae) Payne and Craig (Susan) Payne; three aunts, Mariam Lyons, Evelyn (Delroyce) Frazier and Patricia (Lynn) Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dwight and Violet Payne; an uncle, Lyle Lyons; an aunt, Doris Payne; and a nephew, Darek Wears.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville, where visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday until service time. Pastor Lloyd Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Workman Cemetery at Danville.
