Mary Jean Hickson
MOUNT GILEAD — Mary Jean (Sturrock) Hickson, 78, of Mount Gilead died Wednesday evening, March 16, 2006, at the Sunrise Assisted Living of Worthington.

The family will greet friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Craven Funeral Home, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 E. High St., with the Rev. Bruce Hartley officiating.

Melvin S. Rheins
SUNBURY — Melvin S. Rheins, Ph.D., 85 of Sunbury passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, March 15, 2006, at the Traditions at Mill Run in Hilliard.

He was born on May 13, 1920, in Cincinnati to the late Philip and Henrietta (Balser) Rheins. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of Miami University and completed his doctorate in microbiology with The Ohio State University.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, B. Thelma (Hammond) Rheins, on Dec. 4, 2005.

He is survived by daughters, Melanne (Jack) Finn of Dublin and Patty (John) Martin of Alexandria; grandchildren, Jennifer, Brian and Amelia; and a brother, Robert L. Rheins of Cincinnati.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, interment will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Carolyn A. Simpson
SUNBURY — Carolyn A. Simpson, 62, of Sunbury passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006, at the Columbus Specialty Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born May 3, 1943, in Lincoln, Neb., to the late Charles S. and Pauline A. (Conway) Mertz. She had been a Sunbury resident since 1977.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Simpson; children, Ray Simpson of Columbus, Greg Simpson of Manassas, Va., Kathy Weaver of North Ridgeville, and Eric and James Simpson of Columbus; five grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Mertz; and a sister, Catherine Hines.

Friends may call Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., with rosary services 7:30 p.m., at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. Memorial Mass will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church, Sunbury, with the Rev. Mike Gribble as celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sunbury Memorial Park.
