Edmond Bennett
MOUNT VERNON — Edmond Bennett, 53, of Newark Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 8, 2006, at his residence. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.

Delbert ‘Bert’ Eagle
MOUNT VERNON — Delbert L. “Bert” Eagle, 93, of Mount Vernon died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at Country Court Nursing Center.

Mr. Eagle retired from DCSC in Columbus, he was a member of Centerburg Church of Christ and was a retired Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Patrick) Eagle; sons, John C. of Mount Vernon, Larry J. (Diana) of Mount Vernon and Dan (Carol) of Troy; granddaughter, Melissa (Michael) Rothey of Mount Vernon; grandsons, Nathan of Greenville, Michael of Mount Vernon and Nicholas of Troy; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ira Eagle of Virginia; a sister, Mary (David) Schrock of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lipton, Vernon and Hercle; and sisters, Ethel Lowance and Thelma Poole.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, 49 W. Church St., Centerburg. Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of the Church of Christ, 3830 S. Columbus Road, Centerburg, with visitation one hour prior to service. Roger Crego and Evangelist Fred Albrecht will officiate. Interment will be in Eastview Cemetery.

Friends, if they wish, may contribute to the Centerburg Church of Christ Building Fund in Delbert’s memory.

Mattie B. Fletcher
SUNBURY — Mattie B. Fletcher, 94, of Sunbury died Wednesday morning, Feb. 8, 2006, at Grady Memorial Hospital.

She was born ,May 23, 1911 in Honaker, Va., to the late Walter and Josephine (Cox) Hubbard. Mattie moved to the Sunbury area in 1930 from Virginia. A homemaker, she also assisted her husband in the operation of the former Sinclair Gas Station from the late 1940s through the 1960s.

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Howard) Cheadle of Chillicothe; grandson, James Cheadle; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Audra “Shorty” Fletcher, on Nov. 12, 1985; grandson, Stephen Cheadle, in 1996; four brothers; and four sisters.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the services, which will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, with the Revs. Crate Sparks and Gerald Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Douglas T. Holmes
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Douglas T. Holmes, 57, formerly of Apple Valley, Ohio, died Feb. 2, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born in Akron, Ohio, and graduated from Kent State University. He was employed by Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. as a structural engineer in Savannah, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Holmes.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie (Barnes) Holmes; and stepdaughter, Tracy Kidd. He is also survived by his mother, Alta May Holmes; sisters, Brenda (Bob) Lepley of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Susan (Jim) Coleman of Lancaster, Pa.

Memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 11, at 2:30 p.m. at Northside Church of Christ, 2588 Marion Road, Newark, Ohio, with Pastor Bruce Hissong officiating.

Silvy Muriel McArtor
MARTINSBURG — A funeral service for Muriel McArtor, 82, of Martinsburg , will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1:30 p.m., at Ohio Eastern Star Home, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Leon Hartwig officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in Martinsburg Presbyterian Cemetery.

Muriel died Feb. 7, 2006, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home, Mount Vernon. She was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Jackson County, Ohio, to the late Homer and Catherine (Welch) Gray. She graduated from Wellston High School.

She is survived by her sisters, Delcie Pound of Newark and Della Barthelmas of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and brother, Lloyd Gray of Tampa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married in July 1951, Dwight W. “Pat” McArtor, who died Sept. 1, 1994; and brother, Harold Gray.

Dick Ridgeway
FREDERICKTOWN — Harry R. “Dick” Ridgeway, 76, of Fredericktown died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 8, 2006, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Arrangements will be announced by the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.

Raymond ‘Al’ Savage
MOUNT VERNON — Raymond ‘Al’ Savage, 68, of Mount Vernon passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home, Mount Vernon.

Raymond was born July 29, 1937, at Arnold, Pa., a son of the late Raymond G. and Evelyn (Galgania) Savage. Raymond retired from PPG after 29 years and later was a custodian for the Mount Vernon City Schools from which he also retired. He was a devoted father and grandfather.

He is survived by a son, Stephen (Belinda) Savage of Howard; three daughters, Victoria (Ed) Piar, Susan Rambo and LeAnne Tindall, all of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren, Tyler Savage, Ellie Piar, Natalie Piar, Jeremy Savage, Kayle Savage, Nick Rambo, Nathan Tindall and Lauren Tindall.; and two brothers, Doug (Kathy) Savage and Larry (Madge) Savage, both of Mount Vernon.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Feb. 10, beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Ted Thomas officiating. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.

MOUNT VERNON — Ardis Sowler, 94, of Mount Vernon died Feb. 9, 2006, at Country Court Nursing Center. The North-Dilley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth I. Theimer
UTICA — A memorial service for Ruth I. Theimer, 77, of Utica will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Newark, with Mark Pierce officiating.

Ruth died Feb. 7, 2006, at Utica Care Center. She was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Culpeper, Va., to the late Edwin and Minnie P. (Leavell) Allen.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Gloria Fauss Theimer of Utica; sister, Marie Bruce of Norfolk, Va.; granddaughter, Jacqueline Rene Theimer; two stepgrandchildren, Brady Maxwell and Leilani Bonnell; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The Law-Baker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
