Bernard L. Shirley
ST. LOUISVILLE — A funeral service for Bernard L. Shirley, 66, of St. Louisville,
has been changed to Saturday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. at Brucker & Kishler Funeral
Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, with the Rev. Keith Sjostrand officiating. Burial
will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Shirley passed away Dec. 14, 2005, at his residence. He was born Dec. 4, 1939, in Newark, to the late George T. Shirley, and Vera Beulah (Kislingberry) Shirley. He was a Utica High School graduate. He was a member of the Christian Apostolic Church. Mr. Shirley retired after 30 years from the Joint Vocational School as a custodian. Mr. Shirley was in charge of the water department in St. Louisville for many years. He was a reservist in the U.S. Marines for six years. He enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his stepdaughters, Harvette “Cookie” (Jerry) Collins of Thornville, Donna Jean (David) Alexander of Utica and Peggy Marie (Jack) Wolfe of Mount Vernon; a stepson, Michael L. (Jacki) Frey of Utica; three brothers, R. Gene (Judy) Shirley of Keswick, Va., James A. (Bonnie) Shirley of Tioga, La., and George E. (Marsha) Shirley of Newark; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, Blanche Mae (Paliette) Frey Shirley, Mr. Shirley was preceded in death by his father; and one sister, Anne L. Cornwell.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, Newark.
