Albert H. Leyda
MOUNT VERNON — Albert H. Leyda, 83, of Mount Vernon died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.
Albert was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Holmes County to Charles and Margaret (Lake) Leyda and moved to the Mount Vernon area in 1963. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of War. Albert had been employed by Ohio Fuel Gas Co. and Columbia Gas Co. as a traveling mechanic, retiring in 1984 after 28 years employment. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Salvation Army and was a 50-year member of the American Legion in Shreve, Ohio.
Surviving are his wife, Paulyne “Polly” (Tarman) Leyda, whom he married Dec. 31, 1966; his son, Rob Leyda of West Virginia; his caring stepson, Jack (Lori) Boesken of Mount Vernon; special grandchildren, Christina (Shaun) Wooden, Jordan Starmer, Olivia Starmer, Daniel Harper and Lauren (Robert) Parsons; great-grandson, Logan Wooden. Paulyne and Albert have a very special friend who is like their daughter Lori Stamper of Mount Vernon. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Leyda of Minetonka, Minn., and Eugene Leyda of Big Prairie; and two sisters, Pearl Foltz of Wooster and Evelyn Duncan of Nashville.
His parents, a daughter, Beth Boesken, a sister, Esther Leyda, and four brothers, Earl Leyda, Wilbur Leyda, George Leyda and James Leyda, preceded him in death.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Mount Vernon Salvation Army with Maj. Robert Bender and Maj. Wilmer Bender officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
