Deloris J. Crider
KILLBUCK — Deloris Jean Crider, 56, of Killbuck died Sunday morning, June 26, 2005, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 24, 1947, in West Virginia and was the daughter of Albert Brent and Lillian Mae (Bower) Maxwell. On Nov. 13, 1967, she married Calvin S. Crider and he preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1997.

Surviving are three children, Nancy Crider of Mount Vernon, Wanda (Scott) Kirk of Killbuck and Leslie (Steve) Compton of Killbuck; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Hilah Sponaugle of Nashville, Iris Warner of Clark, Barbara Booher of West Union, W.Va., and Mary Reed of Clark; and four brothers, Jack Maxwell of Killbuck, Robert Maxwell of Danville, Stanley Maxwell of Kansas and Willard Maxwell of Shreve.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Maxwell, Carl Maxwell and Albert K. Maxwell.

Funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the Rev. Tom Michaels officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Daniel L. Elliott
DANVILLE — Daniel Lee Elliott, 58, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Knox Community Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born June 13, 1947, in Mount Vernon to Earl H. “Bud” and Dorothy (Butler) Elliott. He served in the Navy from 1965-71. On Sept. 7, 1969, he was married to Gayle Hyatt.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle; his mother, Dorothy Elliott of Brinkhaven; two daughters, Melissa (Bobby) Looney of Howard and Jennifer Elliott of Danville; three grandchildren, Emily, Hayden and Daniel, and one on the way; two stepgrandchildren, Emma and Austin; two brothers, David (Sharon) Elliot of Danville and Richard Elliott of Brinkhaven; and a sister, Brenda Ferenbaugh of Brinkhaven.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. The Rev. Monte Vance will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Stillwell. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family at 14821 Millersburg Road, Danville, OH 43014, to help defray medical expenses.

Robert L. Lewis
FREDERICKTOWN — Robert L. “Jelly Belly” Lewis, 68, of Netherland Road, Fredericktown, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2005, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born on Sept. 1, 1936, in Harrisburg, Pa., to Franklin Lewis and Marie (Coleman) Coss. Robert retired in 1997 after 42 years of employment with American National Can in Mount Vernon. He was a member of Masonic Ohio Lodge 199 in Bladensburg. Nothing was more important to Robert than spending quality time with his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Even if it meant planting a garden or helping with the ponds, he was always there to lend a helping hand. He will be sadly missed by all.

He is survived by a son, Frank (Kim) Lewis of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Peggy (Edward) Smith of Fredericktown, Pamela (Ronald) Carruthers of Howard and Julie (Todd) Sowders of Howard, 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Michelle) Lewis of Homasassa Springs, Fla.; a sister, Nancy (Mike) McCoy of Pataskala; a stepsister, Marge (Donald) Snavely of Utica; the mother of his children, Beverly Huffman; and friends, Pamela Wolfe and children.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Smith; two brothers, Richard Lewis and Delmar Lewis; and a stepbrother, Jack Coss.

Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a Masonic service will follow at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Mr. Patrick Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Richard S. Shearer
LAKEVILLE — Richard S. Shearer, 68, of County Road 37, Lakeville, died Saturday evening, June 25, 2005, at his home after a 10-month illness.

Mr. Shearer was born March 17, 1937, in McZena, the son of John A. and Esther Mae (Smith) Shearer. He was a McZena-Loudonville area resident all of his life. He was a member of the Ohio National Guard 145th Company, 37th Division, Shreve for eight years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, McZena; the Loudonville Eagles; Loudon Post 257 American Legion; VFW Post 8586; and The National Rifle Association. Richard was a 28-year employee of Mansfield Plumbing Products, retiring in 2000.

He is survived by his three sons, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Shearer of Loudonville, Joey (Penny) Shearer of Lakeville and Jerry Shearer of Loudonville; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Shearer of Wooster and James Shearer of Raberville; and three sisters, Janice Baldner and Connie Dessenberg, both of Loudonville, and Mildred Workman of Dalton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Shearer.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with the Rev. John Furno officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery, Lake Township. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home.

Norine Slack
MARENGO — Norine Slack, 87, of Marengo, died June 24, 2005, at Bennington Glen Nursing Center.

She was born May 31, 1918, in the Sparta area to Howard D. and Florence (Beard) Hulse. She was a member of the Sparta United Methodist Church, where she was the pianist for 45 years, United Methodist Women and Evelyn Chapter 146 of Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by sons, Richard D. (Barbara) Slack of Marengo and Duane A. (Cloya) Slack of Xenia; daughter, Judy K. (John) Weaver of Marengo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Fern A. Slack, March 7, 1989; grandson, Eric Weaver; and sisters, Neva Annett and Dorothea Burch.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohior 61, Sunbury, and one hour prior to the funeral Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Carnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
