Carmen L. Buchanan
UTICA — A funeral service for Carmen L. Buchanan, 71, of Utica, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica. The Rev. Dallas Dryburgh will officiate and burial will follow in Bell Cemetery.

Carmen died Feb. 8, 2005, at Heath Nursing Care Center. She was born May 15, 1933, in Chesterhill to Ernest G. and Blanche (Hill) Starling. She was a member of the Utica Presbyterian Church, Utica Friendly Senior Citizens, Jacksonville Women of the Moose, where she attained the Academy of Friendship, and later became a member of Lake Panasoffkee Women of the Moose and was an honorary citizen of Mooseheart. She was also a teacher’s aide for Lola M. Culver Elementary School in Jacksonville, Fla.

She is survived by sons, Roger (Carolyn) Buchanan of Utica and Corey Buchanan (fiancee, Terina Casanova) of Tipp City; grandchildren, Shelby and Jerad Clayton of Manchester, N.H., Travis and Laura Buchanan of Fieldale, Va., Preston and Melanie Buchanan of Patrick Springs, Va., and Andrew Casanova of Tipp City; great-grandchildren, Marcus and Lillian Clayton of Manchester, N.H., and Breanne Buchanan of Fieldale, Va.; and sisters, Brenda (Ed) Barker of Crooksville, AnnaBelle (Ron) Davis of McConnelsville and Sara (John) Vanoster of Malta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years, Robert L. Buchanan, who died Sept. 10, 1995; sisters, Rosemary Propst and (step) Margaret Modesitt; brother, Eugene Starling; and stepfather, Wilford Gheen.

Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty E. Casteel
SPARTA — Betty E. Casteel, 77, of Sparta died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at her home.

She was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Dublin to Wesley O. and Martha (Roop) Toops. Originally from the Columbus area, she moved to Sparta in 1971. Betty worked 23 years as a cashier for Craig’s Market and retired in 2002 as a clerk for Value City.

Dearly loved and survived by her daughter, Sharon (Jim) Wharton, and sons, Bobby A. (Linda) Jr., Jerry W. (Cassandra) and Jim W. (Debbie) Casteel, all of Marengo; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; sisters-in-law; other members of the Toops and Casteel families; and many, many dear friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Wesley, Walter, Jim and Bill; and sisters, Helen Cline and Margie Trexler.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Bloomfield Cemetery, near Sparta.

Carl B. Deweese
PERRYSVILLE — Carl B. Deweese, 42, of East Second Street, Perrysville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at his residence.

He was born in Cleveland to Bud Deweese and Clara (Weaver) Barb. Carl loved fishing and listening to his CB radio.

He is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Clara and Glen Barb of Fredericktown; a son, Jeremy Weston of Cleveland; stepbrothers, Willy (Nancy) Casey of Mount Vernon; stepsisters, Nancy (Patrick) Rudi of Cleveland, Brenda (Ernie) Konkoli of North Carolina and Gwendolyn (Chuck) Austin of Akron; many aunts and uncles, including Violet Samide and Florine Dove.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bud Deweese.

Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Victory Church of Christ, 12470 Upper Fredericktown Road, Mount Vernon, where funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Carl Snelling will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery at Fredericktown. These arrangements are under the care and direction of the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown.

Barbara J. Wyant
ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Barbara J. Wyant, 67, of Englewood, Fla., died Feb. 6, 2005.

She was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and came to the Englewood, Fla., area 20 years ago from Mount Vernon. She was an office assistant at Gae Stewart RE/MAX Properties in Venice, Fla., and was a member of Englewood United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, James, and a daughter, Kimberly Solaris, both of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Jean Haire of Englewood, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Doan Chapel at Englewood United Methodist Church. Lemon Bay Funeral Homes, Englewood Chapel, is in charge.
