Barbara Devota Burgess
ORRVILLE — Barbara Devota Burgess, 95, formerly of Spruce Hill, Wooster, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at Brenn-Field Nursing Center, Orrville.

Barbara was born June 27, 1909, in Uniontown, Ky., to Joseph and Hallie (Trumbo) Schneider, and in 1991, moved from Mount Vernon to Wayne County. She was employed as a secretary for the Coca-Cola Co. in Mount Vernon, then as president’s secretary of Kenyon College in Gambier, and was employed with the administrator to the Eastern Star in Mount Vernon. She retired in 1980 after 54 years of service.

Barbara was preceded in death by six sisters, Bertye Waller Crawford, Martha Elanora Hall, Deborah Schneider, Jeanette Covert, Eula Schneider and Wilma Schneider; and five brothers, George Cromwell, John Cleveland “J.C.,” Gordon “Trummey,” Jessie and Marvin Schneider.

Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, Wooster, is handling arrangements. Interment will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield, Ky., with a memorial service to follow at a later date. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.MEM.com.

Bette Jo Guidotti
SUNBURY — Bette Jo Guidotti, 80, of Sunbury passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home, Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004.

She was born in Groveport on Jan. 2, 1924, and was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Louis, in 1986; mother, Jessie Sims; brothers, Mac and Dwight Sims; sister, Rosemary Neutzling; and son-in-law, Jack Kuhn Sr.

She was a comparison shopper for Federated Department Stores, a Sunbury resident for 75 years, and member of Sunbury United Methodist Church and Ruth’s Circle.

Se is survived by daughters, Monica (Steve) Kuhn West and Jodelle (Larry) Davenport; son, Louis (Debbie) Guidotti Jr.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury. Funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Sunbury United Methodist Church, Ohio 3 at U.S. 36, Sunbury. Interment will be in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Lee Hicks
SUNBURY — Marshall Lee Hicks, 60, of Sunbury, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at his residence.

He was born July 16, 1944, in Page, W.Va., to John and Clarenda (Collins) Hicks. He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1962, a U.S. Army veteran, worked as an accountant, and had been a Sunbury area resident since 1973. He was an avid OSU fan, enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, and was very proud of his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Velma (Potts); son, John (Kirsten) of Gahanna; daughters, Rebekah of Delaware, Leslie of Sunbury; brothers, Earnest (Donna) of Orient, Curtis L. (Patricia) of Ocala, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Loretta Hager of Ocala, Fla.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Dillard; and sisters, Virginia, Delores and Betty Ruth.

Friends may call Sunbury from 2 to 4 p.m. in the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where service will be Monday at 1 p.m. John Wilbur and Dennis Falb will officiate. Interment will be in Galena Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.

James E. Redmond
BELLVILLE — The Rev. James E. Redmond, 68, of Toms Road, Bellville, passed away suddenly on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. These services are under the care and direction of the Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Vernon.

Ethel Wilcox
SUNBURY — Ethel Wilcox, 96, of Sunbury died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004.

She was born May 4, 1908, in Condit to Barbo and Minnie Farris. She graduated from Sunbury High School in 1926, when she married Burnice G. Wilcox, who preceded her in death in 1977. She retired in 1983 from Sunbury IGA after 35 years of service; and was a member of the former Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, Kimble Pythian Sisters and Porter and Kingston Township granges.

She is survived by daughter, Bonnie (Roger) Higgins of East Alton, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many special friends, including Betty and Rolland Geddis.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Wallace, in 1991; and daughter, Ann Mardell Shultz, in 2001.

Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. John Hankins will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
