on Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon. The

Dorothy Gates
MOUNT LIBERTY — Dorothy A. Gates, 64, of Mount Liberty died Thursday, May
26, 2004, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
She retired after 27 years from Mount Vernon Developmental Center. She was a member of Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter 33, and KC Cruisers Car Club.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lyman; son, David (Elena) Gates of Columbus; daughter, Nancy A. (Chris) Adkins of Marengo; grandchildren, Christopher and Eric Gates, Ryan Adkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Georgia Strickland.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, 49 W. Church St., Centerburg, where Eastern Star service will be at 8 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Carl Hankins will officiate. Interment will be in Eastview Cemetery.
Imo A. Lewis
MOUNT VERNON — Imo A. Lewis, 96, of Mount Vernon died May 28, 2004, at the
Ohio Eastern Star Home. The North-Dilley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Silliman
MOUNT VERNON — Donald B. “Smiley” Silliman, 84, of Mount Vernon
died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at the Whispering Hills Care Center.
Donald was born March 19, 1920, in Fredericktown to Carl K. and Lulu B. (Knouff) Silliman and had lived his lifetime in the Knox County area. He was a graduate of Centerburg High School and served with the U.S. navy Sea Bees during World War II. For many years he owned and operated Smiley’s Sohio in Centerburg. He retired from G.R. Smith Hardware in Mount Vernon. Donald also operated a sweeper repair business from his home in Mount Vernon for several years. He was a member of the Mulberry street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon and the Dan C. Stone Jr. Post of the American Legion in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are his son, David Silliman of Westerville; a grandson, Scot (Andrea) Silliman; three great-grandchildren; and a niece, Norma (James) Bowen of Magnolia.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche (Pore) Silliman; a daughter, Kathy Silliman; and two brothers, Leonard Silliman and Samuel Silliman.
Friends may call Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Rodney Buchanan will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be in Eastview Cemetery at Centerburg.

away Thursday, May 27, 2004, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon. The Snyder Funeral

Carrie I. Styers
MOUNT VERNON — Carrie I. Styers, 77, of Clay Street, Mount Vernon, passed
away Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Washington County, Ohio, the daughter of Beryl H. and Rosa Ella (Enochs) Robbins. Mrs. Styers retired in 1986 after 13 years of employment with Knox Community Hospital.
She is survived by a son, Michael Styers of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Cherie Dingess of Caldwell, Linda (David) Gilligan of Collierville, Tenn., and Jenny (William) Horn of Caldwell; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin “Bob” (Norma) Robbins of Delaware; two sisters-in-law, Marge Robbins and Pat Robbins.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Styers; a son, Timothy Guy Styers; and four brothers, William Robbins, Kenneth Robbins, Fred Robbins and Howard Robbins.
Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Union Grove Cemetery.
