John H. Bell
UTICA — John H. Bell, 81, of Utica died Jan. 29, 2004, at the Utica Care
Center.
He was born March 1, 1922, in Licking County to Ernest A. and Florence (Mason)
Bell.
He is survived by daughters, Margaret and Catherine; a brother, Sidney Bell of
Daytona Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Betty of Newark.
There will be no public services. The Law-Baker Funeral Home in Utica was in charge of the arrangements.
Jackie Blevins
MOUNT VERNON — Jackie (Hess) Blevins, 55, of Mount Vernon passed away Wednesday,
Jan. 28, 2004, at The Ohio State University Medical Center following an extended
illness.
She was born April 3, 1948, in Williamson, W.Va., the daughter of Richard and Marie Hess of Varney, W.Va. She was a graduate of Birch High School in Delbarton, W.Va., and of the Southern West Virginia Community College. A registered nurse by profession, she had been employed by Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky., Doctors West in Columbus, Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in Columbus and Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She is survived by her parents; her husband of 19 years, Mark V. Blevins; three daughters, Terri (Everett) Fields of Varney, W.Va., Jenny (Harold) Scott of Mount Gay, W.Va., and Beth (Jeff) Gibson of Gambier; three special grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jacob Gibson and Kenzie Scott; two brothers, Larry (Ida) Hess of Sheffield Lake and Randal (Donna) Hess of Bellville, Mich.; her mother-in-law, Hallie Blevins of Williamson, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Joanne Houck of Murreita, Calif.; two stepgrandchildren, Tyler Houck and Torrie Chintala; three brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law.
Funeral will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Robert Heizer officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Louis D. Smith
MOUNT VERNON — Louis Dean Smith, 71, of Mount Vernon died Jan. 28, 2004,
at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Danville to John and Loretta (Blubaugh) Smith. He retired from the Knox County Highway Department in 1992.
He is survived by a son, Dennis Smith of Mount Vernon; a grandson, Josh Smith of Mount Vernon; three brothers, Paul (Dorothy) Smith of Howard, Victor (Bonnie) Smith of Loudonville and Marvin (Bev) Smith of Danville; and seven sisters, Doris, Mildred and Sharon Smith, all of Danville, Catherine (Larry) Molor of Killbuck, Linda (Dave) Gill of Howard, Patricia Frazee of Mount Vernon and Marsha (Leroy) Waters of Fredericktown.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, in 1988; a son, David L. Smith, in 2001; and an infant son, John Harry Smith.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the North-Dilley Funeral Home, where funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dan Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Mound View Cemetery.
