Audrey M. Cochran
ST. JOHNS, Mich. — Audrey M. Cochran entered into the presence of the Lord
Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the age of 93, in St. Johns, Mich.
She was born in Fredericktown, July 15, 1910, to Chester and Blanche M. (Willson) Merrin, living most of her life in Mount Vernon.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, former Sheriff
Paul M. Cochran, who died Nov. 15, 1966; her sister, Pauline Berkholder; and brothers,
Richard and Kenneth Merrin.
She was a homemaker, jail matron, public speaker, Sunday school teacher, member
of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon and attended Grove Bible Church of
St. Johns while in the area.
Surviving her are her children: Darlene (Pastor Robert) Prange of St. Johns, Mich., Ben (Cathy) Cochran of Polk City, Fla., Roger (Evelyn) Cochran of Pentwater, Mich.; five grandchildren, Byron (Lianne) Prange, Bethany (Brad) Buser, Debbie (David) Steele, Jeff (Amanda) Cochran, Janet (Chuck) Davis; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where friends may call one hour prior to time of service. Interment will be in Ankenytown Cemetery.
In 1973 Audrey gave the first $100 for the establishment of Grove Christian School in St. Johns, Mich. Because of her love for Christian education, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grove Bible Church, 6990 East Price Road, St. Johns, Mich. 48879.

Judith P. Broderick
CONCORD, Calif. — Judith Pamela Broderick of Concord, Calif., died Jan.
18, 2004, at he home.
She was born in Martinsburg on July 29, 1938, to Albert William and Ethel Mae (Pelton) Porter. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1957. She worked for Western Union for approximately 17 years and retired from Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco in approximately 1999, in property management.
She married Benjamin Eugene Broderick in May 1974, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She is survived by a brother, Dick Porter, and a sister, Joyce Selby, both of Mount Vernon; and various nieces and nephews, Nora Frazee of Gambier, Rhonda Weeks of Charlestown, N.H., Russell Porter of Richland County and Virginia Porter of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister.
Meyers Funeral Home in Huntsville, Utah, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Ogden Cemetery.
Nada M. Layland
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Nada Maxine Layland, 74, passed away Jan. 20,
2004, in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
She was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Mount Vernon to Park and Marguerite (Fry) Gates. Nada made Arizona her home 18 years ago, moving from Southgate, Calif.
She is survived by her loving family: sons, Dane P. Layland of Hawaii, Donald (Lisa) Layland of Henderson, Nev., and David Layland of Mount Vernon; daughter, Diane (Charles) Philpot of Parker, Ariz.; brothers, Derle Gates and Bob Gates, both of California; and sisters, Marcene Black of Carson, Calif., and Joyce Carr, also of California. She will also be greatly missed by her six grandchildren, Charlie Jr. and Steven Philpot, Ryan, Amber, Kenny and Alyssa Layland; and one great-grandson, Zane Philpot.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Layland; parents; and a brother, Neil Gates.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lietz-Fraze Chapel with Guy Gorman officiating.
