MOUNT VERNON ó The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County will host an old-fashioned ice cream social to celebrate its 125th Anniversary on Sunday from, 1 to 4 p.m., across from the main library on the site of the first 1888 Mount Vernon public library, 201 N. Main Street (currently The Living Center parking lot).

Velvet Ice Cream, the Friends of the Library, First-Knox National Bank and the Living Center will sponsor the festivities including 2,000 free servings of Velvet ice cream and a toppings bar. The public is invited to wear a favorite period costume in order to be eligible for prizes or simply enjoy an afternoon of music, refreshments, balloons, clowns and games. Participants will be able to pose for a free digital photo memory at the Living Center gazebo decorated by Paulís Flowers.
