MOUNT VERNON — The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County will host a Groundbreaking Reads Adult Summer Reading Program Brown Bag Chat, “Follow the Path — A Look at the Underground Railroad,” on Wednesday, July 3, noon.
Dig into information on the Underground Railroad. Did you know there was a “reverse Underground Railroad?” Do we know how many fugitives made their way through Ohio on the path to Freedom? Was “head north” the only option? Who were the people who risked all to help them? And what about Knox County’s role in this important time in our history?
Join Linette Porter-Metler, PLMVKC Community Relations, as she shares nearly 30 years of experiences and research into what motivated law-abiding citizens to defy their government and reach out to help in a time when 1 out of every 8 people were “owned” or considered the property of another human being.
All programs are free and open to the public. Feel free to bring a bag lunch. Refreshments will be served. Groundbreaking Reads Adult Summer Reading Program registration packets, door prizes and grand prize entry tickets will be available.
For more information, stop in the main library at 201 N. Mulberry St.; call 740-392-2665, ext. 243; visit www.knox.net; or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
