DANVILLE — Flowers are in bloom and you probably have some garden planted. What better time than now to enjoy Mother Nature and visiting with friends and neighbors.

Ladies from Greer Wesleyan, Danville Methodist and The Shepherd’s House churches will be preparing a delicious Ham dinner including Cheesy potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, rolls and Texas sheet cake. There is a suggested donation and reservations can be made by calling Barb Mickley (599-7224 or 599-7102) or Marty Neighbarger (599-2930). Leave your name and number attending on the answering machines. Lunch will be served at noon in St. Luke Community Center, Danville.

Debbie Hurlbert, resident of Apple Valley and well known for her expansive flower garden and love of birds, will be presenting a power point program on “Dragon Flies.” Yes, these ‘creatures’ are one of Nature’s most intriguing and fascinating insects, and the subject of mankind’s most sublime and ridiculous myths and mythologies, the dragonfly darts around going about its business as usual, blissfully unaware and oblivious to the interest it has generated in us. And perhaps, thankfully for us because if the dragonfly were to understand that we have called it the “Devils darning needle” and “gwas-y-neidr” or the Adder’s Servant, it could laugh long and hard at us…and considering the dragonfly has been around for over 300 million years, it could be a really, really long laugh. Debbie recently presented her program at the “Hosta College” at Upper Valley Career Center in Piqua. A gathering of approximately 500 enthusiastic gardeners attended from the Midwest and other parts of the US, Canada, and even Europe. You are sure to enjoy this presentation and learn of the unique character of this ‘fly.’

All residents are encouraged to attend. Reservations for lunch are necessary — call 599-7224, 599-7102 or 599-2930.
